Opportunity
With planned investment of over £100m, to establish the North East of England as a strategic centre of lithium production, Northern Lithium has the opportunity to write a new chapter in the region’s 1,000-year history of mineral extraction.
The UK is currently solely reliant on imports of lithium from Asia, Australia and South America. Establishing a commercial supply of lithium in the North East of England will create a secure, domestic source of a critical element within the manufacturing supply chain of lithium-ion batteries and electric vehicles whilst also reducing the environmental impact of producing and transporting lithium from current source locations.
Why Lithium #1
Global Lithium supply has to scale twenty times by 2050 to meet demand from electric vehicles and energy storage
Why Lithium #2
UK Lithium demand forecast to grow to 75,000 tonnes per annum by 2035

Why Lithium #3
A secure and sustainable domestic supply is vital with Lithium classified as a critical mineral by the UK Government
